One of the best shows on cable, Travel Channel’s Hotel Impossible, returns for a fourth season Tuesday, October 7. Anthony Melchiorri heads to Daytona Beach where he tackles his latest challenge – breathing new life into the iconic Streamline Hotel. The 1940s art deco building on the west side of A1A has a long history. This is the hotel where NASCAR was founded by Bill France, Sr in 1948. A small plaque outside speaks of the structure’s unique history and its status as Daytona’s first fireproof building, as well as a serving as a bomb shelter during World World II. But over the decades, through a succession of many different owners, the Streamline fell into disrepair and, in recent years, was viewed more as an eyesore by law enforcement and city officials for the illicit activities that took place inside. Melchiorri and his team from the Travel Channel were brought in by new owner Eddie Hennessy, whose vision is to transform the Streamline into a South Beach-style boutique hotel. The renovations have been kept secret since production wrapped in June. For those those of us who live in Florida and love the Streamline for its architecture and history, it will be awesome to see Melchiorri’s work. Hotel Impossible airs Tuesdays at 9 pm EST on the Travel Channel.
