How bout a Johnny Rockets burger and shake next time the family goes bowling? That’s what the owners of Sunshine Bowling Center on East International Speedway Boulevard are hoping folks will say.

They just spent over one-million dollars on renovations to the recreation complex, including ripping out the bar and replacing it with a new Johnny Rockets as well as adding boutique style lanes to the alley.

Just days after relaunch, the conversion seems to be paying off. We stopped by Sunday to have an early lunch and found Rockets busy with locals checking out the latest addition to the DeLand dining scene.

Servers were very friendly and jumped into song and dance the first chance they got.

Going in, we honestly didn’t expect much from the meal. A previous experience at another location several years ago hadn’t gone so well. But the food we ordered here (a Smoke House Single, a BLT, and fries) was surprisingly delicious. Portions were large and everything was nicely cooked.

While we decided to forgo a round of bowling following our meal, you can’t go wrong by planning a night out at Sunshine Bowling Center. The makeover will be greatly appreciated by the community for many years to come.
