Giant, flaky, made from scratch buttermilk biscuits. There’s only one place to go for this American classic when in Northeast Florida and that place is Maple Street Biscuit Company.

Scott Moore and Gus Evans opened their first biscuit shop in 2012 with a badass biscuit recipe and a desire to put a modern twist on southern comfort food.

Three years later, they’ve managed to build a mini biscuit empire with shops throughout Jacksonville, one at Florida State University in Tallahassee, and one in Chattanooga. The guys also have plans to put restaurants in St. Augustine, Fernandina Beach and possibly Orlando.

There’s a friendly, downhome vibe as soon as you enter Maple Street. Employees make every customer feel welcome and community style seating encourages conversation with complete strangers.

A favorite among locals is The Five: an all natural fried chicken breast inside a plump biscuit topped with pecan wood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and sausage gravy. Sides include Smokey Mountain Mac-N-Cheese, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Sweet Potato Fries with maple mustard dipping sauce. Vegetarian options are available for many of the dishes.
