Finishing touches are being put on International Drive’s Artegon Marketplace. The new retail experience offers local crafters and artisans the chance to peddle their wares in what’s being called the “largest open bazaar in Florida.” The 1.1-million square foot marketplace occupies the space once known as Festival Bay and has been completely reimagined with a “Sky Trail” ropes course being installed in the Great Hall, regular street performances by roaming jugglers and stilt walkers, and a revamped interior highlighted by exposed brick and wooden support beams. Developers say the idea was to make Artegon like some other famous marketplaces around the country such as Chelsea Market in New York and Pike Place in Seattle. Artegon Marketplace will officially open to the public Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and special grand opening festivities planned through the weekend.
