A short 16-mile drive from downtown Orlando, Wekiwa Springs State Park is a popular outdoor spot among locals. On busier days, officials close the park when it reaches maximum capacity. But if you do some planning and arrive early to beat the crowds, you’ll be able to experience nature at its finest.
The biggest draw is the 72-degree spring. Bring your favorite trunks and let the water wash away all your cares. Or pack your camera and explore the more than 13 miles of trails where you might bump into wildlife like deer, squirrels, and turkeys. The Florida Black Bear also calls the park home, so always be alert.
A number of recreational activities are available from canoeing and kayaking down the Wekiva River to bicycling, horseback riding and camping. On select weekends during the year, special events can draw hundreds of people. Check ahead before planning your visit.
